If you are currently going through painful relationship difficulties, arguing a lot, and you feel stuck and worried about your future, you may find online relationship counselling helpful. Relationship difficulties involving anger issues, arguments, and anger management issues may not necessarily be a sign that you are not suitable for each other. It could be a sign that you lack effective communication and conflict resolution strategies needed to maintain a peaceful family environment based on trust and love.

Does Online Relationship Counselling Work?
Online relationship counselling at Anger Therapy London, with over 18 years of clinical experience, relies on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based counselling approach. It has been shown to produce moderate to large reductions in anger issues (Beck et al., 1998), consistent with our client reviews (please put ‘couple‘ in the find tool to see all results of couple session reviews).
Relationship issues are associated with anxiety and depression (Whisman, 2007; 2010), and research involving 2,634 patients found that improvement is associated with regular attendance during the first three months of therapy (Tiemens et al., 2019). To encourage consistency, a discount is available for 12 prepaid weekly one-hour sessions.
From my clinical experience, the sessions are most effective when you are committed to developing new communication skills and maintaining the agreements made during sessions. The advantage of online relationship counselling is having an unbiased person observe behavioural patterns that you may no longer notice because they have become automatic and unconscious through repetition. In fact research shows that 65% of our behaviour is a result of habits that are deeply ingrained and unconscious (Gardner et al., 2025). The therapist will then share these observations with you, helping you improve your self-awareness and empowering you to make better choices.

When Does Online Relationship Counselling Fail to Work?
The exceptions to a successful outcome of online relationship counselling include clients who have already decided in secret to end their relationship and are afraid to reveal their decision. In such cases, ongoing resistance to developing new skills and applying them outside the sessions is likely to become evident and may prevent positive change.
If this happens, the sessions can instead be used as a mediation process to navigate the ending of the relationship in a controlled manner and discuss child arrangement agreements.
Another example includes people with chronic control and anger issues, resistance to change, and reluctance to change. As one of my former clients put it, “Aggression is how I get to control my husband.”
Finally, relationship counselling is less likely to succeed for clients who refuse to compromise under any circumstances, those with substance misuse issues who struggle to maintain focus and may first benefit from treatment such as detox, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), or Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and those with unrealistic expectations of achieving significant results within five hours.
Remember, old habits die hard, and practice helps you achieve the desired change.

Who Is Online Relationship Counselling Suitable For?
Online relationship counselling is suitable for everyone and busy people who like to save time, energy, and money by avoiding travel to and from appointments and who enjoy the flexibility that online relationship counselling provides.
